SCHULZ SHARES 16 LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES WITH CLASS
President Kirk Schulz shared his principles of leadership with eight sections of the Introduction to Leadership Concepts class for freshmen this fall. He also urged them to become involved in student leadership roles in organizations and told them stories about his journey as a way to apply the principles on a daily basis.

SCHULER FAMILY IS HONORARY FAMILY OF THE YEAR
The Andy J. Schuler Jr. family from Chapman was named K-State’s Family of the Year during Family Day on September 25. With 21 K-State degrees, four generations, and more than eight decades of involvement, the Schulers are K-State proud.

WHY ADULTS READ YOUNG ADULT AND CHILDREN’S LITERATURE
Two faculty members from the Department of English, Philip Nel and Karin Westman, say that children’s literature is always read by adults. Series like the Harry Potter books and others tackle cultural issues that appeal to all of us, no matter what our age.

MUSIC EXTENDS TO OTHER CLASSES AND DISCIPLINES
Participating in music, whether through singing or playing instruments, is more than a leisure activity, say the Department of Music faculty and students. Music increases brain development and teaches life lessons like discipline, teamwork, and accountability. And the department offers many band, orchestra, and choir ensembles to both majors and nonmajors.

FALL COMMENCEMENT IS APPROACHING FAST!
If your student graduates this December, the details are getting down to the final wire. Ceremonies for the Graduate School and for the College of Technology and Aviation are on Friday, December 10; the rest of the ceremonies take place on Saturday, December 11.

GET INVOLVED WITH THE PFA
The Parents and Family Association helps you connect to K-State. Our website keeps you up to date on events like Family Day and Open House, which give you the opportunity to come to campus and spend the day with your student. Through the Parents and Family Advisory Board, you can participate in student recruitment events in Kansas and out of state. You can also help us raise funds to support scholarships and make enhancements to student life at K-State.
