Transfer student info
What if your student's not a freshman?
Incoming freshmen aren’t the only ones feeling lost on the first day of classes. Transfer students, even with two years of college under their belts, go through the transition phases just like freshmen. Here’s a rundown of what students can expect when coming to K-State.
Admission
The first step when preparing to transfer to K-State is completing the application for admission. K-State suggests that if students are planning to transfer, they should apply six months before the semester they plan to attend.

Financial aid
Financial matters can be tricky, but the key is to start early. Plan a budget before your student comes. How much are the bills going to cost each month? How much money will your student be making at his part-time job? How much can you as parents contribute? Find out the answers to these questions and your life will be much easier.

Housing
Most transfer students live off campus in apartments or houses. It’s a good idea to plan a day to come to Manhattan to apartment shop, if you can. It’s also important to get roommates picked out as soon as possible. Many leasing offices want all leasers to sign for an apartment or house at the same time.

Lost
It’s not uncommon for new students to get lost on a new campus. Buildings look the same, trees block the view, and signs are small. If your kid isn’t Indiana Jones—a natural adventurer—or doesn’t have a great sense of direction, the best tool to keep on hand is a campus map.
Adjustments
Being plucked from a well-known environment and thrown into a different college setting takes time to get used to. Your student will have to learn a new routine, make new friends, and find a new job. The key to making unfamiliar surroundings feel more like home is to get involved.
