Pollution Prevention Information Network (PPIN) grant program seeks to improve development and dissemination of P2 information by funding regional P2 information centers. These centers serve state, tribal, and local government needs in addition to providing P2 information directly to businesses. The regional centers collaborate and coordinate on P2 information development and dissemination activities nationally in order to decrease duplication of effort and promote efficiency. Information and training are used to assist businesses in identifying better environmental strategies for reducing or eliminating waste and conserving natural resources. Grantees of this program have created a national network called the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) which provides information and services on their websites. 4-2 Dear Colleague Letter - Call For Nominations - Presidential Awards For Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) (NSF)
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) is a Presidential award established by the White House in 1995. The purpose of the award is to recognize U.S. citizens or permanent residents and U.S. organizations that have demonstrated excellence in mentoring individuals from groups that are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and workforce. Groups that are underrepresented in STEM include women, people with disabilities, underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities, as well as individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds and some geographic regions such as urban and rural areas. Individuals and organizations in all public and private sectors are eligible including industry, academia, primary and secondary education, military and government, non-profit organizations, and foundations. Nominations are encouraged from all geographical regions in the U.S., its territories or possessions, particularly jurisdictions designated by Congress under NSF's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). An Individual or Organizational nominee may be nominated only once per competition. Nominations for different Individual or Organizational awards may be submitted from the same corporation, institution, agency or organization in the same competition. NSF 13-044
The Broadening Participation Research Initiation Grants in Engineering (BRIGE) solicitation is designed to promote the development of early career faculty who will become champions for diversity and broadening participation of underrepresented groups in engineering throughout their careers. BRIGE awards will enable early career faculty to integrate effective diversity and broadening participation strategies in their engineering research, education, and innovation activities.Throughout this solicitation, the term underrepresented groups will refer to and include the following: women, persons with disabilities, and ethnic/racial groups that are in the minority in engineering, which include African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Pacific Islanders. Proposals from early career faculty who are members of underrepresented groups as well as from Minority Serving Institutions are especially encouraged. Only one investigator per proposal is allowed. 4-4 Crosscutting Research: Development of Novel Architecture for Optimization of Advanced Energy Systems (DOE)
The objective of this activity is to competitively solicit projects in novel technologies under the Crosscutting Research Program Area to support Department of Energy Strategic Goals. The United States Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory is seeking innovative research and development of novel sensor and control systems for use in advanced power generation systems. New sensor and control technology will contribute the goals of high efficiency, near zero emission, and effective carbon capture for the next generation power generation technologies. These technologies include advanced combustion, gasification, turbines, fuel cells, gas cleaning and separation technologies, and carbon dioxide separation and capture technologies. To manage complexity and achieve performance goals, advances in the capability and architecture of instrumentation, sensors, and process controls are vital in assuring integrated unit operations, predictive on-line maintenance, and continuous life cycle monitoring and real time process optimization. The lack of logistics systems capable of handling and delivering sufficiently high tonnage year-round volumes of high quality feedstocks to support the rapid escalation of cellulosic biofuels production has been identified as a significant barrier to the expansion of a sustainable domestic biofuels industry. In particular, biomass physical and chemical quality parameters have repeatedly been identified as significant challenges to the smooth operation and economic viability of biorefineries. This FOA will focus on developing and demonstrating strategies, equipment, and rapid analytical methods to manage feedstock quality within economic constraints throughout the feedstock supply chain. The main effort in Proposals must be directed toward full-scale demonstration of integrated feedstock supply chain systems that can deliver the volume of high quality, affordable, high impact feedstocks required by commercial biorefineries over a significant geographic area in the United States. The development of nuclear energy-related infrastructure and basic capabilities in the university and college community is necessary to promote R&D that supports nuclear science and engineering (NS&E), DOE-NE's mission, and the Nation's nuclear energy challenges. This FOA is seeking applications from U.S. universities and colleges for equipment and instrumentation infrastructure to support nuclear energy-related engineering and science teaching and research laboratories. The infrastructure requested by a university should be individual, discrete, and definable items or capabilities that will support, maintain, or enhance the university's or college's capacity to attract and teach high quality students interested in nuclear energy-related studies; build the university's or college's NS&E basic research or education capabilities; or facilitate the university's or colleges' capability to perform R&D that is relevant to DOE-NE's R&D mission. The Johnson Cancer Research Center supports cancer research and training at K-State. Faculty members conducting cancer-relevant research are invited to affiliate with the center and apply for various awards. Innovative Research Awards provide seed money to gather preliminary data crucial for future major grant proposals. Faculty Equipment Awards provide funds for new equipment. Travel Awards are provided in modest amounts for travel to learn new scientific techniques or visit collaborators at other institutions. Awards for graduate student travel and summer stipends are also available.
Honoring the legacy of Paul A. Marks, MD, President Emeritus of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a distinguished scientist, the Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research recognizes outstanding young investigators who have made significant contributions to increase the understanding of cancer or improve the treatment of the disease through basic or clinical research. The Paul Marks Prize is awarded every other year to up to three investigators. Nominees must be age 45 or younger on the date of the submission deadline.
From community colleges to liberal arts institutions to large research universities, U.S. administrators are increasingly focused on campus internationalization. The Fulbright Scholar Program provides approximately 800 teaching and/or research grants lasting three months to one year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. As a result of this program, faculty and their home institutions build a `multiplier effect' by infusing cross-cultural perspectives into curricula, revitalizing teaching methods, and opening doors for international colleagues and students. Grants in more than 125 countries are available. The Core Program also includes Distinguished Chair awards. These highly selective awards are for eminent scholars with significant publication and teaching records.
