Limited Submissions

Limited submission programs have sponsor restrictions on the number of proposals that may be submitted by a single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which applications will be submitted. 10-1 Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge (DOC)

The Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge offers funding from 4 agencies, including the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Delta Regional Authority. Funding will be awarded in approximately 20 regions through a competitive inter-agency grant process. In addition, the Rural Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge leverages existing technical assistance resources from 9 federal agencies and bureaus to promote economic growth in rural regions and accelerate innovation-fueled job creation and global competitiveness. This opportunity will support customized solutions targeted to address the gaps and opportunities specific for individual regions by strengthening linkages to self-identified, high-potential industry clusters such as renewable energy, natural resources, food production, rural tourism, and advanced manufacturing. 10-2 Challenge Grants (NEH)

NEH challenge grants are capacity-building grants, intended to help institutions and organizations secure long-term improvements in and support for their humanities programs and resources. Through these awards, many organizations and institutions have been able to increase their humanities capacity and secure the permanent support of an endowment. Grants may be used to establish or enhance endowments or spend-down funds that generate expendable earnings to support ongoing program activities. Challenge grants may also provide capital directly supporting the procurement of long-lasting objects, such as acquisitions for archives and collections, the purchase of equipment, and the construction or renovation of facilities needed for humanities activities. controlled by, other federal entities in their projects. 10-3 Research Grants (Truman)

The Harry S. Truman Library Institute for National and International Affairs is the private, non-profit partner of the Harry S. Truman Library. The Institute's purpose is to foster the Truman Library as a center for research and as a provider of educational and public programs. Research Grants are awarded biannually and are intended to enable graduate students, post-doctoral scholars and other researchers to come to the Harry S. Truman Library for one to three weeks to use its collections. Awards are to offset expenses incurred for this purpose only. (TGA 1/12)

10-4 Institute of Education Sciences (IES): Education Research Program (ED)

The central purpose of the Institute's research grant programs is to provide parents, educators, students, researchers, policymakers, and the general public with reliable and valid information about education practices that support learning and improve academic achievement and access to education opportunities for all students. In carrying out its grant programs, the Institute provides support for programs of research in areas of demonstrated national need. 10-5 Training and Information for Parents of Children with Disabilities: Parent Training and Information Centers (Ed)

The purpose of this program is to ensure that parents of children with disabilities receive training and information to help improve results for their children. Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) will provide parents of children with disabilities with the training and information they need to enable them to participate cooperatively and effectively in helping their children to: a) Meet developmental and functional goals and the challenging academic achievement standards that have been established for all children; and b) Be prepared to lead productive, independent adult lives to the maximum extent possible. 10-6 ARPA-E Open Funding Opportunity (DOE)

The mission of ARPA-E is to identify and fund research to translate science into breakthrough energy technologies that are too risky for the private sector and that, if successfully developed, will create the foundation for entirely new industries. Successful projects will address at least one of ARPA-E's two Mission Areas: 1) Enhance the economic and energy security of the United States through the development of energy technologies that result in: a. reductions of imports of energy from foreign sources; b. reductions of energy-related emissions, including greenhouse gases; and c. improvement in the energy efficiency of all economic sectors; and 2. Ensure that the United States maintains a technological lead in developing and deploying advanced energy technologies. ARPA-E funds technology-focused applied research to create real-world solutions to important problems in energy creation, distribution and use and, as such, will not support basic research, defined as a systematic study directed toward fuller knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts without specific applications towards processes or products in mind. 10-7 ROSES 2011: Carbon Monitoring System Program (NASA)

This solicitation requests proposals for additional Carbon Monitoring System (CMS) work to be conducted primarily by external organizations. This new work is intended to build upon the lessons learned in the pilot studies and scoping efforts and to further integrate NASA products and capabilities with those of other U.S. agencies and international entities. NASA seeks scientific and technical experts to shape and contribute to the next phase of development of a CMS--proposals offering both the development of specific next steps and the execution of the necessary tasks. 10-8 Collaborations for Macromolecular Interactions in Cells (R01) (NIH)

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to establish inter-disciplinary collaborative projects to advance studies of macromolecular interactions and their relationship to function in cells. These collaborations are designed to integrate additional research strategies into NIGMS' research base of laboratories specializing in macromolecular function in living systems. Grantees may use this funding opportunity to: i) complement each other's capabilities (for example, in biochemistry, genetics, chemistry, or pharmacology), where the innovation is in the biology rather than in the technology; ii) apply proven technologies that are technically challenging, expensive, or not yet widely used in cell biology and allied fields (for example, mass spectrometry, high-throughput screening); iii) develop, pilot, evaluate, and/or apply emerging technologies (for example, superresolution light microscopy); iv) carry out feasibility studies or upstream research and development of new technological concepts that are unproven, but potentially useful for study of macromolecular interactions. 10-9 Small Business Alzheimer's Disease Research (SBIR[R43/R44]) (NIH)

On February 7, 2012, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius announced that $50 million would be directed immediately to boost Alzheimer's research in FY2012 in response to President Obama signing the National Alzheimer's Project Act. This increased funding will likely cover a range of projects, including basic science on the biology and genetics of Alzheimer's disease as well as translational and clinical research in development and testing of therapies. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to solicit Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) applications from eligible small business concerns in the area of Alzheimer's disease. 10-10 Patton Trust Research Grants (KCALSI)

The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute is pleased to issue a Request for Proposal for Patton Trust Research Grants to be submitted to the KCALSI for funding consideration. This RFP serves to stimulate the development and submission of major multidisciplinary research proposals from investigators in the life sciences to government or private agencies. KCALSI's approach for achieving this goal is to support research development grants capable of generating critical preliminary data needed to develop competitive proposals for submission to external agencies. Patton Trust Research grant proposals must be specifically focused on the genetic basis of diseases that predominately affect children and clearly identify how the research team intends to generate critical preliminary data needed for future proposal submissions to external agencies.

10-11 DoD Peer Reviewed Medical Investigator-Initiated Research Award (DOD)

The PRMRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award (IIRA) is intended to support studies that will make an important contribution toward research and/or patient care for a disease or condition related to at least one of the Congressionally directed FY12 PRMRP topic areas. Research projects may focus on any phase of research from basic laboratory research through translational research, including preclinical studies in animal models and human subjects, as well as correlative studies associated with an existing clinical trial. The rationale for a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician's first-hand knowledge of patients and anecdotal data. 10-12 Understanding the Acquisition, Interpretation, and Use of Research Evidence in Policy and Practice (Grant)

The William T. Grant Foundation seeks to fund high-quality empirical research with the goal of improving the lives of youth between the ages of 8 and 25 in the United States. To that end, the foundation has released its fourth Request for Proposals on Understanding the Acquisition, Interpretation, and Use of Research Evidence in Policy and Practice. The purpose of the RFP is to help increase the understanding of how research evidence is acquired, interpreted, and used in policy and practice that affect youth. The foundation encourages interdisciplinary projects, and welcomes applications from researchers in various fields and disciplines such as anthropology, communications, economics, education, family studies, human development, organizational studies, political sciences, prevention research, psychology, public administration, public policy, public health, social work, and sociology.
