EPA is seeking applications proposing to develop a research program, including an effective community outreach program component, to mitigate the impact of oil spills. The research program must address one or more of the following topics: 1) development of cost-effective innovative technologies to mitigate the impact of oil spills; 2) development of effective oil dispersants, surface washing agents, bioremediation, and other mitigation measures with low environmental impact; and 3) investigation of the effects of oil spills and application of dispersants/agents/measures on the environment. Applicants must also submit a community outreach program plan, the objective of which is to help impacted Gulf Coast communities effectively participate in the study and use its results. (TGA 4/11)
NCRR encourages applications to its SEPA program for the development and evaluation of innovative research education programs to improve PreK-12 research career opportunities and the community's understanding of the health science advances supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical and basic research. SEPA encourages dynamic partnerships between biomedical and clinical researchers and PreK-12 teachers and schools and other interested organizations. Particular importance will be given to applications that target PreK-12 and/or ISE/media topics that may not be addressed by existing curriculum, community-based or ISE/media activities. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Research Foundation supports projects related to the teaching and learning of language and literacies. The trustees seek proposals that reflect the diverse interests among NCTE membership, including but not limited to proposals focusing on underrepresented populations, equity pedagogies, curriculum changes and the effect the changes have on students, school policies, changes in teaching methods, student interaction and learning, community literacy, home-school literacy relationships, after-school programs, student literacy practices in and out of school, and other relevant topics of study.
The Preservation and Access Education and Training program is central to NEH's efforts to preserve and establish access to cultural heritage collections. Preservation and Access Education and Training grants help the staff of cultural institutions, large and small, obtain the knowledge and skills needed to serve as effective stewards of humanities collections. This is, of course, a problem of "theory and practice" in education at the broad social level which mirrors the issue of the relationship between educational research and practice. Analytical, historical, and empirical work that probes effectively and creatively into these issues can contribute toward social decision-making that moves education along constructive paths.

The CISE Computing Research Infrastructure (CRI) program drives discovery and learning in the computing disciplines by supporting the creation, enhancement and operation of world-class computing research infrastructure. The CRI program supports two classes of awards: 1) Institutional Infrastructure (II) awards support the creation of new computing research infrastructure or the enhancement of existing computing research infrastructure to enable world-class research and education opportunities at the awardee and collaborating institutions. 2) Community Infrastructure (CI) awards support the planning for computing research infrastructure, the creation of new computing infrastructure, or the enhancement of existing computing research infrastructure to enable world-class research and education opportunities for broadly-based communities of researchers and educators that extend well beyond the awardee institutions. The Avon Foundation for Women's breast cancer research programs focus on efforts aimed at understanding the causes of and prevention of breast cancer. The foundation's current research priority areas are understanding the causes of breast cancer and research to develop new preventative strategies; understanding the role of endogenous and exogenous environmental factors in the development of breast cancer; understanding whether viruses or infectious agents play a role in breast cancer; validation of markers/biomarkers of breast cancer risk or that signal different breast states such as parous/nulliparous (the foundation does not support discovery research; instead, it directs its funds to validation, translation, or clinical application of markers); development of clinically applicable assays or diagnostic tests that are predictive of breast cancer risk or that can be used to monitor changes in breast health over time; and understanding how parity and breastfeeding alter breast cancer risk. Awards under this FOA will provide a short-term, specialized research career opportunity for established veterinarians (DVM, VMD or equivalent) with an interest in comparative medicine and translation research. The term of the award may range from 6-24 months. Awardees are expected to be at the Associated or Full Professor level (or equivalent in a non-academic setting). The Office of Naval Research, Warfighter Protection and Applications Division of the Warfighter Performance Department (Code 342) is soliciting white papers (preproposals) and proposals in the following topic areas within the NIHL Program: 1) Capability to preserve and restore hearing. a. Studies of hair cell regeneration; b. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications for research in development of high-throughput assays for use in analyzing chemicals or mixtures of chemicals to explain how exposure can be casually related to adverse, apical outcomes related to development and reproduction. Theses applications can address toxicity modulated by chemical effects on the endocrine system or via a variety of other pathways. Assay systems of interest are those relevant to humans and other species relevant to human health and/or ecological risk assessment. The purpose of this program is to provide grants or enter into cooperative agreements to improve postsecondary education opportunities. The absolute priority supports the formation of educational consortia between EU and U.S. institutions. To meet this priority, the applicant must propose a project that encourages cooperation in the coordination of curricula; the exchange of students, if pertinent to grant activities; and the opening of educational opportunities between the U.S. and countries in the EU.
