The goal of the Outstanding New Environmental Scientist Award is to identify and attract outstanding new environmental health researchers and encourage their early transition to independence. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) targets exceptionally talented early stage investigators who intend to make a long-term career commitment to research in the mission areas of the NIEHS and assist them in launching an innovative research program focusing on problems of environmental exposures and human biology, human pathophysiology and human disease. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)/ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) invites grant applications for Education and Research Centers (ERC) that are focused on occupational safety and health training and research training. ERCs are academic institutions that provide interdisciplinary graduate training and continuing education in the core occupational safety and health areas of industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health nursing (OHN), occupational medicine residency (OMR), occupational safety (OS), as well as other closely related occupational safety and health (OSH) fields. The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. Candidates for Sloan Research Fellowships are required to: hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, economics, neuroscience or computational and evolutionary molecular biology, or in a related interdisciplinary field; be members of the regular faculty (i.e., tenure track) of a college or university in the United States or Canada; and be no more than six years from completion of the most recent Ph.D. or equivalent, unless they have held a faculty appointment for less that two years or unless one of the following special circumstances apply: military service, a change of field, or child rearing. Candidates are nominated by department heads or other senior researchers. More than one candidate from a department may be nominated, but we recommend no more than three. Direct applications are not accepted.
The purpose of the SBIR program is to provide an opportunity for US-owned, for-profit small business firms to submit innovative, applied, research and development projects that address important problems facing American agriculture and have the potential to lead to significant public benefit if the research is successful. Research proposals are accepted in any of the following topic areas: 1) Forests and Related Resources; 2) Plant Production and Protection - Biology; 3) Animal Production and Protection; 4) Air, Water, and Soils; 5) Food Science and Nutrition; 6) Rural Development; 7) Aquaculture; 8) Biofuels and Biobased Products; 9) Marketing and Trade; 10) Animal Manure Management; 11) Small and Mid-Size Farms; and 12) Plant Production and Protection - Engineering. The SBIR program exists in three phases. The purpose of Phase I is to prove the scientific or technical feasibility of the proposed research and development effort. Phase I projects typically are for 8 months. In light of the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, NSF would like to remind you that the National Science Foundation has in place a mechanism to receive and review proposals having a severe urgency with regard to availability of, or access to data, facilities or specialized equipment, as well as quick-response research on natural or anthropogenic disasters and similar unanticipated events. RAPID is a special grant mechanism developed specifically to respond to unusual circumstances where a timely response is essential to achieving research results. To help determine whether the proposed research is appropriate for NSF's RAPID funding, potential investigators must contact the NSF program officer(s) most germane to the proposal topic before submitting a RAPID proposal. To ensure that all resources and possible innovations are available to help solve this terrible disaster, NSF is encouraging all companies that have viable solutions to help solve this problem to submit a one time only proposal to this special announcement. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is an independent agency, established by the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974, tasked with licensing and regulating the Nation's civilian use of byproduct, source, and special nuclear material to ensure adequate protection of public health and safety, to promote the common defense and security, and to protect the environment. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 authorized the NRC Nuclear Education Grant Program to support courses, studies, training, curricula, and disciplines pertaining to nuclear safety, nuclear security, and nuclear environmental protection, and other fields that the commission determines to be critical to the NRC's regulatory mission. The NRC Nuclear Education Grant program's primary purpose is supporting and developing the educational infrastructure necessary to allow the Nation to safely move its nuclear energy initiatives forward. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. The Earth is often characterized as dynamic because its systems are variable over space and time, and they can respond rapidly to multiple perturbations. The goals of the Frontiers in Earth-System Dynamic (FESD) program are to: 1) foster an interdisciplinary and multi-scale understanding of the interplay among and within the various sub-systems of the Earth, 2) catalyze research in areas poised for a major advance, 3) improve data resolution and modeling capabilities to more realistically stimulate complex processes and forecast disruptive or threshold events, and 4) improve knowledge of the resilience of the Earth and its subsystems. An individual may serve as Director (project, center or collaboratory director) on only one FESD proposal (either Type I or Type II), but may be involved in a second proposal in another capacity. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, (NCCAM) encourages the submission of grant applications that characterize the effects of microbially generated metabolites of dietary components on host cell biology. One of the goals of this program will be to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations among scientists engaged in nutrition, cancer prevention, cancer cell biology research, and cancer disparities research with those conducting studies with gut microorganisms. The objective of this solicitation is to stimulate research in the pre-clinical development and testing of novel therapeutic compounds aimed at slowing, halting, or reversing the progressive decline in cognitive function and modifying the behavioral symptoms in Alzheimer's disease (AD); or delaying the onset of or preventing AD, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), or age-related cognitive decline. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support small grants in primary immunodeficiency diseases focusing on ex vivo studies with human specimens and on studies with current or new animal models, including novel clinical strategies for detecting, identifying the molecular basis of, or developing innovative therapies for primary immunodeficiency diseases. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to establish a Partnership between a U.S. four year college or university, or a U.S. non-profit organization in partnership with a U.S. four-year college or university, and Kabul University in the primary field of the teaching and learning of English language and literature. This partnership will focus on creating a framework for evaluating learning that is based on educational research methodologies and that can be applied in university classrooms and in university computer learning centers.
