This solicitation aims at introducing nanoscale science, engineering, and technology through a variety of interdisciplinary approaches into undergraduate engineering education. The focus of this year's competition is on nanoscale engineering education with relevance to devices and systems and/or on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology. An individual may serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) or co-Principal Investigator (co-PI) on no more than one proposal. Only one (1) proposal may be submitted by a US academic institution, College/Department of Engineering or College/Department of Engineering Technology as the lead institution with the following exception: A US academic institution may submit a second proposal as the lead institution, only if it is focused on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology. 6-2 Cyberinfrastructure Training, Education, Advancement, and Mentoring for Our 21st Century Workforce (CI-TEAM) (NSF)
The CI-TEAM program supports projects that position the national science and engineering community to engage in integrated research and education activities promoting, leveraging and utilizing cyberinfrastructure systems, tools and services. This solicitation seeks three types of project proposals. One type of proposal, the Demonstration Project, is exploratory in nature and may be somewhat limited in scope and scale. Demonstration Projects have the potential to serve as exemplars to effective larger-scale implementation and diffusion activities in the future. The second project type, the Implementation Project, is generally large in scope or scale and draws on prior experience with the activities or the teams proposed. The third project type, the Diffusion Project, is expected to engage broad national audiences with research results, resources, models, and/or technologies. Access to Artistic Excellence, Challenge America Fast-Track, Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth. Introduction Access to Artistic Excellence encourages and supports artistic creativity, preserves our diverse cultural heritage, and makes the arts more widely available in communities throughout the country. While projects in the category may focus on just one of these areas, the Arts Endowment recognizes that many of the most effective projects encompass both artistic excellence and enhanced access. Particularly relevant at this time are projects that domesticate innovation by generating new forms of art making, new directions in the field, and/or innovative uses of creative resources. The Arts Endowment is particularly interested in projects that extend the arts to underserved populations--those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. The Director of the Institute of Education Sciences (Institute) announces the Institute's FY 2011 competitions for grants to support education research and special education research. The Institute will conduct 12 research competitions in FY 2011 through two of its National Education Centers. The National Center for Education Research (NCER) will hold eight competitions. Two competitions for education research; one competition for education research training; one competition for education research and development centers; one competition for research on statistical and research methodology in education; and three competitions for evaluations of State and local education programs and policies. The National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) will hold four competitions; two competitions for special education research, one competition for special education research training; and one competition for special education research and development centers. The National Science Foundation (NSF) seeks to enhance opportunities for collaborative activities between conservation scientists and chemists and materials scientists to address grand challenges in the field of science of cultural heritage. A recent workshop, which was co-sponsored by NSF and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, concluded that the field of cultural heritage science could greatly benefit from collaboration between conservation scientists, primarily located in US museums, and chemists and materials scientists in academic institutions. The program solicits collaborative proposals that aim to: a) develop new and improved analytical techniques and instruments with high sensitivity and spatial resolution (large and small scale) for restricted volume and/or standoff detection of component materials, degradation products and deterioration markers and which are suitable for non-destructive analysis of cultural heritage objects; b) study dynamic changes leading to degradation of cultural heritage objects; c) design new multi-functional treatment for cultural heritage objects; d) develop new theoretical models to predict dynamic processes in cultural heritage objects that lead to their degradation while taking into account their molecular and materials properties and their surface and bulk interactions with environmental perimeters. The Polio Research Committee (PRC) identifies unmet research needs, directs research, and assists in identifying investigators and designing studies to answer unanswered research questions in the fight to end polio. The PRC is currently soliciting research proposals with particular focus on the following: 1) Understanding mucosal immunity in India and 2) Addressing low vaccine coverage in Nigeria.
This award supports the initial exploration of innovative, untested, novel, and potential groundbreaking concepts in bone marrow failure research. Results of studies conducted through this award may provide the scientific rationale upon which a new hypothesis can be based, or provide initial principles of an innovative hypothesis. Because of this award is designed to provide investigators with the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations, some gaps in the supporting rationale may exist due to lack of available information. The intent of the BMFRP NIA is to support the career transition and/or continued development of promising, independent, non-mentored investigators, who are in the early stages of their scientific careers, in the field of BMF disease research. Experience in BMF research is not required. 6-13 Science of Behavior Change: Finding Mechanisms of Change in the Laboratory and the Field (R01) (NIH)
This FOA solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications that will improve understanding of the basic mechanism of behavior change by bridging work in the laboratory and the field. This initiative seeks to establish the groundwork for a unified science of behavior change, capitalizing on emerging basic science to accelerate investigation of common mechanisms that play a role in initiating or maintaining behavior change and are applicable across a broad range of health-related behaviors. Approaches from behavioral economics; the social, behavioral, cognitive and affective neurosciences; neuroeconomics; behavior genetics and genomics; and systems science are specifically encouraged.
