Personal Information:
BA History: Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon
MA & PhD Anthropology: Michigan State University, East Lansing
- Economic and Applied Anthropology: agricultural production systems and
rural development
- Interdisciplinary: funded joint field research and consultancies with
agricultural scientists on agro-forestry: India and Pakistan
- South Asia: nine years experience research, working and living in rural
India, primarily Rajasthan, starting with the American Peace Corps
- Near native fluency in Hindi-Urdu (can fool people on the telephone)
Experience with International Education:
KSU Director of Study Abroad: 1992-2003
KSU Director International Program Support – 2003-2012
- Developing study abroad programs with counterpart universities
- Working with KSU faculty/departments to develop agreements with
international counterparts
- Working with funding agencies bringing sponsored students to KSU
- PI Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad project – to Czech Republic 2005
- PI 3 year US Dept. of Education Title VI Undergraduate International and
Foreign Language Program grant to create an 8 college, interdisciplinary
South Asian Studies program – 2009-2012
- 2010: Led 17 faculty to India for curriculum and career development in
as an activity for the above grant.
- 2012: Co-leader with Ted Cable on study abroad trip to India, Cultural
and Natural Resources of India
