Money Emergencies
- If your money or other valuables have been stolen, contact the local
police department to file a report. However, unfortunately, these
items are rarely recovered. If you are traveling with valuable possessions,
consider taking out travelers' insurance to cover the cost of replacement.
If something is irreplaceable, don't take it with you. Leave it at
home in a safe place.
- If you have run out of money , your parents can wire you money via Western Union,
or they can deposit more money directly into your account for you to withdraw from an ATM.
- If your ATM card has been lost or stolen , contact your parents. If they were signed onto
your account, they can easily request a new card from the local branch and then send it via
FedEx or UPS to you. If one or both were not signed onto your account, contact your local branch.
They often have more authority to help individuals than the national help numbers.
- If your credit card has been lost or stolen , contact your credit card company as soon as possible.
Remember, the 1-800 numbers do not work from abroad. Your parents will have to call for you, or you will
need to know the non-toll-free number. Have your card and Social Security numbers handy.
- If you have questions or concerns not covered here, please call the Office of International
Programs at: 1-785-532-5990.
