K-State Affiliated Scholarships

Scholarships for K-State Students who are Studying Abroad

In order to apply for these scholarships, students must submit an Office of International Programs Study Abroad Scholarship Application and indicate which scholarships they would like to be considered for (i.e. you will be considered for the OIP study abroad scholarship plus any one of those listed below).

Academic Programs International (API)
API annually awards scholarships to students studying abroad through API affiliated programs. For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad through an API program.

The Catherine Joyce Memorial Scholarship
For a degree or non-degree student properly enrolled in any curriculum and selected to participate in an official Kansas State University program of study or service abroad. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the College of Engineering. Preference will also be given to students who are residents of States other than Kansas.

Doris Hays Fenton Memorial Scholarship
For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad. Selection will be based on academic performance, promise and need.

Elfrieda Nafziger Scholarship
For students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University and participating in the university’s Study Abroad and/or International Service Learning programs. Preference will be given to students traveling to Africa, Asia or Latin America.

Friends of International Programs Scholarship
"Friends of International Programs offer one $750 scholarship annually to a K-State student for Spring Semester study abroad. The successful applicant is selected from among students applying for an Office of International Programs Study Abroad scholarship. Requirements include a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and completion of 30 hours of course work. The successful applicant will be chosen based on the strength of an essay describing the individual’s goals of the proposed study abroad program and a description of a campus/community experience. Academic merit and financial need complete the criteria. Applicants will complete the K-State Office of International Programs Study Abroad Scholarship Application found at www.k-state.edu/studyabroad/application or obtained through the Office of International Programs in 304 Fairchild Hall. The deadline for scholarship applications for the Spring Semester will be announced, and will typically be in early October."

The Heather Stewart Memorial Scholarship
For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the college of Human Ecology.

The Joseph and Elizabeth Barton-Dobenin International Exchange Scholarship
For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad to the Czech Republic. Selection will be based on the Office of International Programs Scholarship grading criteria, which consists of a written essay, academic merit, financial need and community involvement.

Megan E. Taylor Czech Republic Student Award
For students properly enrolled in the College of Business Administration at Kansas State University. Preference for K-State students traveled to the Czech Republic will be given to high financial need, female multi-cultural students who qualify for Federal Pell Grant Assistance. K-Sate students are expected to study business at the University of Economics in Prague.

Rodolfo J. Montes de Oca/Costa Rica Small Town International Scholarship
Any student enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University who is from a small rural Kansas community. Must have at least a 3.5 high school GPA, and maintain a 3.0 GPA at Kansas State University. Must have been accepted into a Costa Rican study abroad program (i.e. a study tour, semester abroad or year abroad).

University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC)
USAC annually awards scholarships to students studying abroad through USAC affiliated programs. For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad through an USAC program.

The Vernon Larson Scholarship
For undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad. Preference will be given to a student who has accumulated at least 30 academic credit hours at Kansas State University. Selection will be based on academic performance, promise and need.

Veronica Bonebrake International Scholarship
For students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad. Preference will be given to students who have financial need and show academic potential.

Philip and Jeune Kirmser AFS Scholarship
Scholarship to be awarded to a former AFS Americans Abroad student from the Heartland area who is properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University and needs financial assistance.

Aside from the criteria of each specific scholarship, the funds will be awarded without restriction to race, gender, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability.
