Housing Information

Temporary Housing Options

The Department of Housing and Dining Services usually has beds available on a first come, first serve basis in the residence halls for the international students that arrive for Orientation in August. The cost is approximately $30 per person per night for a standard double room. The rooms include bed linen, pillow and towels. To reserve a space, email guestrh@ksu.edu. Meals can be purchased in the dining hall, although there may be some days that the dining hall will be closed.   You will be given the dates that meals are provided as well as costs at check in. Unfortunately, this service is not available for students arriving in January.
For a listing of hotels in the area, visit the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau website.

Permanent Housing Options

There are two types of housing to consider when coming to K-State. First is on-campus housing. That would include the residence halls and Jardine Apartments. You can find information about on-campus housing at www.ksu.edu/housing/. We strongly recommend that students stay in a residence hall. There are many opportunities to practice speaking English, make friends, and learn about American culture.

Residence Halls

Approximately 3,800 students live in the 10 K-State residence halls, and Smurthwaite Leadership/Scholarship House. The process for applying and securing a residence hall room is stated below:

1) Complete and submit the online Application for a Residence Hall Contract.  You will be responsible for paying an application fee at the time you apply.

2)  You will then receive an email from Housing and Dining at Kansas State University with information about completing the Housing Contract. This is a three-step process. All three steps must be completed in order to secure a space in the residence halls. During this process you will complete your contract, assignment preferences and payment. It is STRONGLY recommended that you complete the Residence Hall Contract prior to arriving at K-State.  By submitting the contract early, the process to check-in at the residence hall upon your arrival to Manhattan will be much easier.

The residence hall contract includes double room occupancy and three meals daily (except Sunday evenings). A 9- or 12- month continuous housing options are available in Moore, Haymaker, Marlatt and West Halls for students who need to stay on campus during scheduled university breaks. The English Language Program strongly recommends that students stay in a residence hall. Students who live in residence halls have many opportunities to practice speaking English with other residence hall occupants.

Off-Campus Apartments
You may also choose to live in an apartment or house off campus. Apartments are available in Manhattan. Rental costs range from $300-$500 per month. Apartments are usually available, but can be harder to find at the beginning of the semester. Here is a listing of resources to help you locate an apartment or find a roommate to share a house or apartment.
