Kansas State University invites nominationsand applications for the position of Interim Director, Study Abroad. This position reports to the Assistant Provost, Office of International Programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of directing and managing the Study Abroad Office, its budget and overall organization. The chosen candidate will be responsible for direct communication with all relevant KSU units and with external entities. A national search for a permanent position will be conducted later for an anticipated start date of August 3rd, 2015.
35% - Assigns tasks to, advises, supervises work of, and evaluates performance of Assistant Director, Administrative
Assistant, Study Abroad Advisor(s), practicum student(s), and intern(s); conducts and assesses surveys of staff and student workers and participants for continuous improvement; manages the budget; conducts site reviews; updates and creates office policies; manages the 24-hour emergency contact line.
25% - Develops, maintains and tracks international exchange partnerships; recruits, administers pre-admissions and advises
Incoming exchange students; collaborates with all Academic Colleges regarding exchange student course enrollment
advising; collaborates with international partners and providers.
15% - Recruits students to study abroad; advises students and faculty at all stages of program involvement; develops and
maintains study abroad applications and records; develops, manages and distributes study abroad publications; monitors world news for incidents related to, or which could affect, students studying abroad.
25% - Develops and maintains external relations with campus community, faculty, administration, staff and students; gives
direction to the Study Abroad Office’s growth and development based on the most up-to-date information in the field; develops guidelines for and leads the Faculty-led Program Proposal Review Committee; maintains engagement with, and actively participates in, various professional organizations and consortiums in International Education, as well as within the campus community; collaborates with the University Foundation to establish new and administer current scholarships for study abroad and incoming exchange students; coordinates and hosts international partner visits.
3-5 years of employment in Higher Education
Demonstrate understanding of Study Abroad Process in higher education
Must have studied abroad as either an undergraduate or graduate student
3-5 years of experience in study abroad advising/leadership; foreign language proficiency
