Kansas State University invites applicants for the position of International Student Advisor. This position reports to the Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services.
Duties include:
65% Advising
Advising international students, scholars, and their dependents on pertainent immigration regulations by serving as a Designated School Official  for F-1 students and an Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 students and scholars.  Serve as the back-up to the Assistant Director for SEVIS Coordination and ImageNow Administration. Advising on co-curricular matters is also expected.  Both will be accomplished through walk-in advising, scheduled appointments, phone and email correspondence, and presentations.  This also includes assisting in preparing written information disseminated through handouts/flyers and the listserv.  Collaboration with a team of advisors is expected.
20%  Orientation
Plan and implement an orientation program in the fall and spring semesters for international students.  Duties include collaborating with other offices across campus to provide information for the new international students.  In addition, the successful candidate will raise funding for the program through area businesses and organizations.
10% Program Coordination
Coordinate the Basic Language Training program.  Coordinate the annual trip to the Truman Luncheon.  Initiate and implement new programming ideas to assist in international students, scholars, and their families with adjustment to the U.S., share their culture, and/or create meaningful interactions with individuals from the U.S.  Serve on other committees across campus that support or enhance international education.
5% Maintain Website
Update and revise the pages of the ISSS website pertaining to students. 
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Good interpersonal, advising and communication skills
Demonstrated interest in international education
Experience living or working abroad, in higher education student services, or working with F-1 and J-1 international students.
Per federal regulations, applicant must be able to demonstrate US citizenship or lawful permanent residency. 
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Second language ability
Previous experience with populations whose first language is not English
