Kansas State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of International Admissions and Recruiting in the Office of International Programs. We seek a dynamic individual who will provide collaborative leadership to an essential unit as a part of an office that includes five units - Study Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, English Language Program, International Admissions and Recruiting, and International Research & Faculty Collaboration.  The successful candidate must be a strategic thinker and a visionary leader who understands and values the university’s commitment to excellence in internationalization through the recruitment and admission of highly qualified international students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate must be a broad thinker; a strong advocate for international students, the Office of International Programs and the University; a collaborative and deliberate decision maker; and a responsible fiscal manager. Responsibilities fall under the broad categories of International Student Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions; Budget/Supervisory, and; KSU Country Offices and Agents. Extensive international and domestic travel is required.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Working or living abroad
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education administration to include sales, media, marketing and/or advertising; recruitment; international admissions; international student advising.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in staff supervision.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in budget development and implementation
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent Organizational Skills
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Foreign Language Skills


International Admissions and Recruiting

The Office of International Admissions and Recruiting consists of a Director, who reports directly to the Assistant Provost for International Programs; an Assistant Director, supported by two international admissions specialists, whose main responsibility is to manage the Admissions functions of the office, and; a recruiting staff who report directly to the Director. In addition, there are support staff positions and student employees to support the functions of the office.


The Office of International Programs

The Office of International Programs furthers the goal of internationalization of the university through excellent student recruitment and retention; solid immigration advising and robust programming for international students; English proficiency assessment and teaching; promoting and facilitating education abroad experiences for students, faculty, and curriculum integration in the classroom; customized support for sponsored students, and; support for international research and the promotion of faculty collaborations. The Office of International Programs employs more than 100 staff throughout its units.


The University and Community

Kansas State University is a public land grant institution with over 24,581 students from all 50 states and more than 2,100 international students from more than 100 countries. It is centered on a 664-acre campus in Manhattan located 125 miles west of Kansas City in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas. The strong local economy is bolstered by K-State and its proximity to Fort Riley. The city is large enough (54,600 permanent) to have big city amenities but small enough to maintain a strong sense of community.



This 12-month Director position has a proposed starting date of July 1, 2014, with competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
