Academic accommodations are provided to students with documented disabilities who can show a need for such supportive services. These may include notetakers, test-taking accommodations, assistance in obtaining alternate texts, and priority enrollment. Sign language interpreters may also be requested through DSS.
Disability Support Services has a testing center for students needing test-taking accommodations. Examples include extended time, a reduced distraction environment, use of a word processor, oral examinations and scribes.
Students with permanent or temporary mobility impairments may be interested in the use of the DSS shuttle service. A lift-equipped van is available to transport students with mobility impairments around campus from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. when classes are in session.
Students with disabilities are encouraged to make an appointment with a DSS staff member during summer or fall orientation to arrange appropriate academic accommodations before classes begin. Students are required to provide documentation of their disability. Documentation for students with cognitive disabilities, such as a learning disability, ADHD or a psychological disability, must be current and comprehensive.
