MEETING MINUTES FOR MARCH 9TH
-Roll Call: Caylee, Mallory, Mike, Jessica (of AISES), Billie, Angela, Cameron and Georgia
-Mallory to be added to listserv memcginn@ksu.edu
-Voted on N.A. Events at Black Jack Hills, consensus was NO and that event will not occur
-Reuben Ironhorse-Kent (Iowa Tribe) voted YES to to have him come back with flutes, Missouri River Valley Pottery, and regalia display.
- Voted YES we want to have Terra Coons demonstrating/teaching Cherokee
Basket making?
-Voted YES we want to add Prairie Citizen's Band Tribal Office Rep. with
regalia display and information on how this group divided from the
Prairie Band group and info on main family members?(James Thorpe-Sauk &
Fox related to Citizen's Band, Wamego family name)
-Voted YES want to have Mike Perez, Mexican, bring in display of
Native American Arts & Crafts along with his own beadwork &
leatherwork?
-Discussed possibility of a film with NASA Heritage Month funding
-Questioned who would others you would like to see contacted to display during event?
Kickapoo / Sac & Fox? culture/speak/demonstrate? RESPONSES:
-Myra Gordon of Dual Diversity has called for help on April 3rd 2008 during Diversity Summit (specifically lunch) with Wilma Mankiller, itenarary at http://www.k-state.edu/ddcd/DiversitySummit09.pdf
Possibility for polo shirts (voted to include AISES also) will take sizes for this summit and we'll need additional help.
-Discuss if we have a movie to try & bring in that would show our culture & promote understanding between the non-native students?
-Nominate other speakers for heritage month to be contacted.
-Voted on Myra's suggestion for a gift from NASA be presented to
Wilma Mankiller during reception. Will add AISES to plaque in lieu of combined meetings and organizations.
-Update on May trip to Haskell Commencement Powwow. The Haskell
Committee has accepted our request to set up info table at event.
-Voted to create an updated logo: Mike designated as the creator of a few prototype logos to be voted on at next meeting.
-Georgia let us know Mirta Chavez at Dual Diversity would like to meet with NASA members and wishes to let us know that she is there for scholarship, help in the Dual Diversity office.
-Haskell Commencement Powwow May 9th, 2009, we haven't recieved word from OSAS for funding. Voted on when we will be attending this Friday, Saturday event--- Myra Gordon suggested we check with Mirta Chavez
to see if she would okay our use of Heritage Month funds to purchase
the awning and 10' banner.with the NASA logo on it voted YES.
