MEETING MINUTES FOR FEB 1 5:30 MSO

Our meeting opened with Miriam leading the group.

Rachel Bender won the door prize drawing of the Medicine Wheel Poem.

Information was presented by Miriam on Wade Fernandez music group who
Miriam would like to see us bring in for our Heritage Month.  There was
a possibility that we could approach H.A.L.O. to co-sponsor the group.
No one was assigned to do this.

Discussion followed on the possibility of KSUDB to play a block of
Native American music during our heritage month.  Georgia Perez
volenteered to contact Candice, faculty advisor to see what the
possibilities would be & cost if any. Will give up date at next
meeting.

Pat Embers brought in the Powwow tapes which we viewed during the
meeting.  She had extra copies for anyone wishing to have one. Pat also
passed around information on the Wisdom Keepers Conference April 1-4
which is to be held in Council Grove, KS.

Following discussion on the possibility of bringing in an elder to speak
& native languages, Harold Brandt let us know that the Miami tribe is
actively trying to perserve their language by making Miami alphabets,
language tapes, and even workshops available to their members.
Possibly we could see if a set could be made available to the Dow
Library.

Rhondalyn, Faculty Advisor, was able to attend between her other
meetings.  Rhondalyn greated everyone and informed us that all the
bills are in for our 1st Flint Hills Classic Basketball Tournament &
Powwow.  They are ready to be processed by the club.  Rhondalynn voiced
needing to hear still if there would any additional funds from the
Pottawattamie (I appologize for spelling) Tribe for the extra expense
of food served at the Powwow.  Rhondalyn currently has the unused
donated items from this event at her house.  Georgia reported that
Melinda regreted being unable to make a Tuesday meeting & would be
getting with Rhondalynn on NASA paperwork that she had.

We duscussed our meeting times.  Miriam suggested a Tuesday & a
Wednesday meeting.  We voted & it was passed to have our meetings at
5:30pm every other week alternating Tuesdays & Wednesdays, so possibly
all members could make at least 1 meeting a month.

Miriam organized us voting for officer replacements.  Elizabeth Schrum &
Rachel Bender agreed to be co-presidents.  Georgia will check with OSAS
if we will need to list one as President & one as Vice President.
Charita Vine considered a position but reported she is currently taking
14 hours & involved with BSU, then Dawn Murphy volenteered to be acting
Treasurer.  She will only be available for Tuesday meetings, but we
decided that would work.

We discussed possibility of going to Westmoreland to the Perez Trading
Post to do crafts some weekend.  Maybe make earrings, keychains, work
on shawls, leggings, moccasins etc. as a fun outing / get together.
Maybe have a discusion group on Sunday of what crafts we are
individually working on doing.

Next meeting was set for Wednesday Feb 16th at 5:30.

Meeting ran past 6:30, was ended at 7:00pm
