Plant the Seeds: Grow a Music Teacher
Music Teacher Apprenticeship Model
A 2001 survey of MENC collegiate members that a majority of music education majors decided to become music teachers while still in high school and younger.
The findings showed what influenced them to become music educators:
- The most influential person was their high school music teacher.
- The most influential experiences were high school instrumental and choral ensembles.
- The most influential events were participating in solo/ensemble festivals and honor groups such as all-states.
With these considerations in mind, this program is a plan that has been successfully implemented at several schools around the country.
Let me introduce you to the goals of this program.
