I. Basic Requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences:           

            Communications (9)

                       * ENGL 100 (OR 110) Expository Writing I (3)

                       * ENGL 200 (OR 125) Expository Writing II (3)

                       * SPCH 106 Public Speaking I (3)

            Humanities (9-16)

                        Any Dept. of English literature course (except ENGL 355 or 545) OR

                             Dept. of Modern Languages literature course (3)

                        Any course offered in the Dept. of Philosophy (except PHILO 110 or 220), OR SPCH 320, OR

                             SPCH 330, OR SPCH 434, OR any two courses in a modern language (3-10)

            Social Science (6)

                        HIST - Any course from the Dept. of History (3)

                        Any additional social science course that addresses cultures outside the Western tradition (3)

            Natural Sciences (7)

                        Two courses from the Natural Sciences (one course must include a lab (7)

            Quantitative Sciences (6)

                       * MATH 100 College Algebra OR higher level math course OR Grade of C or better on

                             Algebra CLEP test (3)

                       * STAT 325 Elements of Statistics or higher level statistics course (3)

II. University General Education Requirements:

 

Students must complete at least 18 hours of approved UGE courses (marked by w in the catalog ) , one third/6 hours of which must be at the 300-level or above. Courses may overlap with the Basic Requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences, as listed above. The 18 hours may not include music courses, or courses from the College of Education. III. Requirements for Admittance to the College of Education

            ____ Minimum total of 50 hours

            ____ Minimum 2.5 GPA for all college work

            ____ Minimum 2.5 GPA in teaching specialty (music courses)

            ____ Minimum 2.75 GPA in 35-Hour General Education Core

            ____ ÒCÓ or higher in Expository Writing I (ENGL 100, or 110)

            ____ ÒCÓ or higher in Expository Writing II (ENGL 200, or 125)

            ____ ÒCÓ or higher in Public Speaking I (SPCH 106)

A half recital or an extended ÒjuryÓ recital is required before graduation.  Divisional recommendation determines the methods of satisfying this requirement.

 

Instrumental majors are required to participate in marching band for at least two semesters (preferably during the freshman and sophomore years).  String majors may substitute a comparable experience for this requirement.

 

Piano proficiency requirements must be met one semester before scheduling student teaching. (Students will no be allowed to complete the STAR form without a passing score for piano proficiencies)
