Dr. Dori Waggoner joins Kansas State University as an Assistant Professor of Music Education. After earning a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri, Dr. Waggoner taught concert, jazz, and marching bands in mid-Missouri. While teaching in the public schools, Dr. Waggoner’s students not only experienced consistent success in band and solo/small ensemble festivals, but also developed an understanding and appreciation of music. Several of her students went on to participate in college and community ensembles and selected music education as a career. Her Master of Music in Music Theory and Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction – Music Education were both earned at the University of Missouri in Columbia. While working on her advanced degrees, Dr. Waggoner also served as Adjunct Professor of Music at Central Methodist University teaching music education and music theory classes.

Undergraduate music teacher education, especially error detection skills and effective rehearsal techniques, are Dr. Waggoner’s research interests. She has presented workshops for the Missouri Music Educators Association and the Missouri Bandmasters Association, and has served as guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician for several schools and conferences.
