Erin
(Rocker) Shelton chosen “Quality Teacher”

INDEPENDENCE, KS - Erin Shelton, who serves as the instrumental music
instructor for the Independence school district, has been selected as
the February 2009 “Quality Teacher of the Month” in Independence
USD 446.
Shelton
directs the band programs at both Independence Middle School and Independence
High School and was working with her eighth grade students when she and
her class learned that she had been chosen for the district-wide honor.

Graduate Assistant David Whitman Accepts Offer from the University of
Southern Mississippi
KSU
Graduate Assistant in Percussion David Whitman completed his Master of
Music degree in May, 2008. He has matriculated to the doctoral program
of the University of Southern Mississippi, where serves as Graduate Assistant
in the studio of Dr. John Wooton.
Nick
Wulfkuhle is currently manager of the Charlottesville, VA location of
Music & Arts Centers. Nick grew up in Grove City, OH and attended
Kansas State University for Undergraduate Studies. After his time at KSU,
Nick was an intern for the Percussive Arts Society where he help planned
and produce the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
Since then Nick joined the Music & Arts Centers, one of the largest
music retailer's in the United States. Nick was married to his wife Kallie
in September 2007.
Amanda
and Owen Taylor are both attending The University of Central Missouri.
Amanda will finish up her degree in piano pedagogy in May 2008 and Owen
will get his music technology degree in 2009. They are both trying to
keep their percussion chops up and are starting a marimba quartet too!
They are also working on a duet call Blue Motion. Good times! Amanda is
teaching piano classes for her assistantship and doing a lot of accompanying
and she may do some touring with UCM's Saxophone/Music Technology professor
premiering some new works for piano, sax, or both.
Jason
Reichenberger teaches band at Kingwood High School in Kingwood, TX. He
grew up in Wichita, KS and went to Kansas State University for his undergraduate
degree in Music Education. After KSU, he moved to Madison, WI to get a
masters degree in Percussion Performance. Life then took him to Kingwood,
where he began teaching in 2004.
Originally
from Rapid City, South Dakota, Aric Hageman received his Master of Music
degree with an emphasis in percussion performance from Kansas State University
in May 2006. Aric was the first percussion graduate assistant at KSU under
the direction of Dr. Kurt Gartner. Aric graduated from the University
of Wyoming in May 2004 with his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.
Aric has accepted the position of the director of bands at Riverton High
School in Riverton, Wyoming where he is starting the marching band and
conducting the concert band, jazz band, pep band and percussion ensemble.
In his spare time, Aric enjoys biking and hiking in the mountains.
Jeff
Hewitt graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Kansas
State University in May, 2005. While at KSU from 2000-2005, he performed
in several ensembles such as Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Symphony
Band, and Keyboard Percussion Quartet (Quadradical); he was also a KSU
Orchestra Concerto Contest Winner in 2004. Originally from Overland Park,
KS, Jeff is currently the assistant director of bands in McPherson, Kansas.
Since August 2006, he has taught at the middle school and high school,
while spending a lot of his time instructing the drumline and percussion
ensemble. In addition to teaching in public schools, Jeff also teaches
private percussion lessons as part of the adjunct music faculty at Central
Christian College and at the
Professional Drum School in Hutchinson, KS. When not performing or teaching,
Jeff enjoys relaxing at the Lake of the Ozarks, supporting K-State sports,
and searching for records to add to his collection.
