Virginia Houser teaches piano, class piano, and piano pedagogy. Since 1989 she has developed an extensive knowledge of piano repertoire for specific skills and of lesser-known teaching works. Her research in the area of whole-body wellness and physical ease at the piano has led to extensive study with artist teacher and pianist, Barbara Lister-Sink, and includes her own technical retraining in the Lister-Sink approach. Houser has retrained a number of students with physiological obstacles and/or technical limitations with success. Her research has been published in the American Music Teacher. As a member of Music Teachers National Association, Houser is active on the state and local levels. She is past state president of Kansas Music Teachers Association and has held numerous positions on the state organization’s board and in the Manhattan Area Music Teachers Association; she is currently MAMTA’s president-elect. Houser is a frequent adjudicator and clinician in Kansas and the Midwest. She is also affiliated with Pi Kappa Lambda and the American Guild of Organists.
