Why Public Health?

The final outcome of all public health effort is to improve the health of a community and or targeted population through education, promotion, research and disease prevention. This is achieved by addressing the physical, mental, social and environmental concerns of a community.

 

Public health offers a variety of career options within the public and private sectors as well as non-profit organizations. Public sector careers include working with local, state, and federal health departments in various positions, such as food safety inspectors, health educators, and epidemiologists. Potential private sector employers include environmental agencies, insurance firms, and pharmaceutical companies. Non-profit organizations like hospitals, health advocacy groups, and other social service agencies also employ individuals with public health degrees.
