Ten Reasons to Host a KSU Master of Public Health Field Experience Student:
1. MPH graduate students add an extra dimension to your agency or organization: Students in the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program have many skills that can be beneficial to both large and small organizations. Students can:
2. MPH graduate students are an excellent way to develop your potential employee base: After completing the MPH degree program, new graduates can move into a fulltime position with much of the essential training and orientation completed. Less time spent orienting a new employee leaves more time for productive work.
3. MPH graduate students require less training than most new employees: KSU field experience students come pre-trained. Each student will have completed all of the required coursework before starting the capstone field experience in public health. All students will have a basic understanding of the core concepts and functions of public health and in-depth knowledge and skills in their selected area of emphasis (food safety or infectious diseases/zoonoses or nutrition or physical activity). MPH graduates require less time-consuming and costly training than most new employees that have no experience in public health work settings.
4. MPH graduate students improve services for your target population or clients: A field experience student can often take over tasks, other than clerical, that will allow you to spend more time helping your clients or constituents.
5. MPH graduate students increase the diversity of your employees: Students from Kansas State University come from a wide variety of social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Current students are veterinarians, food scientists, dietitians, physicians, chemists, and community wellness specialists. They come from different states, cultures, and countries. Both men and women are in the program.
6. MPH graduate students help train your supervisors: Supervising a field experience student can contribute to increased management experience for your regular employees already in supervisory positions.
7. MPH graduate students are sound financial investments: Part time employees often require much training and supervision if they have no background in public health. Adding fulltime employees further strains an organization’s financial resources. Mature and experienced graduate students can provide quality work for a reduced cost, both in time and money.
8. MPH graduate students bring new energy to the organization: Field experience students come with a fresh level of enthusiasm and excitement that can energize the workplace.
9. MPH graduate students have the potential to increase efficiency and productivity: Staff members can get more done in the office or in the field with another individual lending a helping hand.
10. MPH graduate students are investments in the future of public health in Kansas, the nation and around the globe: Practical training as part of an advanced degree program makes graduates of Kansas State University more effective and capable leaders in the public health community. Students leave the program better prepared to enter the workforce to improve the health and quality of life for citizens throughout the world.
