The MEP provides free tutorial service each semester. Students are encouraged to seek assistance and complete a tutoring
application
to acquire the assistance needed. You are welcome to visit the MEP
office to request the service. Staffed by upper class and graduate
engineering students, tutors are interviewed and matched with students for a
"best fit". Tutors must have a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA to assist MEP
students. Tutoring Schedule for Spring 2007
TBA = To be Announced.
The MEP Mentoring Program at Kansas State University's College of Engineering was established to meet several goals. The first goal is to encourage and foster personal and professional relationships between multicultural engineering students and employed K-State multicultural engineering alumni. The second goal is to aid in the retention of multicultural engineering students at K-State. And the final goal is to provide multicultural engineering students with someone impartial to turn to for advice and support. The first year is very crucial for multicultural students, therefore, the students have mentors assigned to them based upon race/ethnicity, gender, and academic major. Along with the other services available to the multicultural engineering students, the Mentoring Program helps to increase not only the retention, but also the recruitment and graduation of multicultural engineering students. The Mentoring Program, funded by Cargill, assist mentors to travel to the K-State campus to meet with MEP students during meetings for the student chapters of AISES, NSBE, and SHPE. There is also an Email Mentoring Program which matches members of the approximated 350 multicultural KSU engineering alumni and other multicultural engineers with the MEP students, again, based upon race/ethnicity, gender, and academic major. MEP offers special one-credit courses for Multicultural students during Fall and Spring semesters. These courses provide an introduction and important exposure to the academic, intellectual, and social demands of an engineering curriculum from a multicultural perspective. You may contact the MEP Director for more information: LaVerne Bitsie-Baldwin (lbaldwin@ksu.edu)
