Post-Migration Steps

Kansas State University's Mediasite content and services have been migrated from an off-campus hosting service to on-campus facilities. While the new on-campus Mediasite system should seem familiar to those who have previously used the off-campus hosted system, there are some steps faculty and staff should perform to ensure their Mediasite content and tools are working properly.

For K-State Online Instructors

Check your course(s)

Look over your Canvas courses to confirm your Mediasite content loads and plays properly. If something is not working properly, it is usually easiest to simply add the content to the course again.

Alternatively, if you feel comfortable working in the rich content editor's HTML view, you can simply replace all appearances of "kansasstate.mediasite.com" with "mediasite.k-state.edu" in the HTML code.

Check your Mediasite content

Content uploaded to the old Mediasite system during the migration period has been manually imported into the new system. If you are unable to locate a particular presentation, please email mediasite@k-state.edu with the details, as the presentation may have been inadvertently missed during the manual import process.

Changes you made in MyMediasite during the service migration (approximately June 3 - June 30) may not be reflected on the new Mediasite server. Examples of changes are:

  • Renaming a presentation
  • Editing the description or adding/removing/modifying other presentation metadata such as as tags or presenter information
  • Changing delivery options (adding/removing podcast or Publish to Go options)
  • Adding/removing/renaming a channel
  • Moving a presentation to a different channel or shared folder
  • Deleting a presentation

If you made any of these changes during the migration period, they may not have been included as part of the migration, in which case you will need to perform the changes again.

Check your Mediasite Desktop Recorder software

If you use the Mediasite Desktop Recorder installed on your computer to record Mediasite content for your course, you will need to update the software's connection settings so your recordings are uploaded to the new Mediasite server.

For Mediasite Desktop Recorder Users

If you have previously installed the Mediasite Desktop Recorder software on your computer, you will need to update the software's connection settings so your recordings are uploaded to the new Mediasite server. See these step-by-step instructions on how to update the settings.

For Website Content Managers

Webmasters and others responsible for their website's content should update their Mediasite links and embedded videos as soon as possible. It is as simple as changing "kansasstate.mediasite.com" to "mediasite.k-state.edu" in your link or embed code.

Links to the old Mediasite system will continue to function until the end of May 2017.

For College/Departmental Mediasite Administrators

  • Modifying security settings on presentations, folders or other resources
  • Adding/deleting/modifying recording schedules, templates, and/or stream groups

If you made any of these changes during the migration period, they may not have been included as part of the migration, in which case you will need to perform the changes again.

Mediasite recorder appliances

Your unit's recorder appliances have been reconfigured to upload recordings to the new Mediasite server. The functionality of the recorder is not expected to change as a result of the migration.

Media import projects

For administrators using media import projects in Mediasite, the project may need to be added to new Mediasite system. If the project already exists, you will need to re-enter the (S)FTP credentials and save the project settings.

Mediasite management portal access

The domain name in the URL used to access the Mediasite management portal has changed. Simply change the "kansasstate.mediasite.com" portion of your bookmarked URL to "mediasite.k-state.edu" and it will point to the new server.

What happened to the Mediasite button in Canvas?

Rich Content Editor Buttons

Depending on the number of apps enabled in your K-State Online Canvas course, the Mediasite button used to insert Mediasite content in the Canvas rich content editor may have moved.

If you do not see the button, click on the More External Tools down arrow button to display more tool buttons, one of which should be the Mediasite button.
