The research news and features assistant writer is responsible for identifying, writing and producing news and feature material for print media and for Perspectives Webzine under the direction of the Research News and Features coordinator. Works with faculty and local, regional and national media to identify story ideas and identify and provide faculty/administration expert sources.
1) Gathers information and writes news releases and tipsheets on university research and
activities, speakers, appointments and accomplishments. Contributes news and feature articles to Perspectives Webzine, as assigned.
2) Assists with ProfNet requests and with pairing queries with K-State experts. Assists with maintaining ProfNet experts guide at their Web site updated.
3) Maintains frequent contact with editors and reporters through self-initiated phone calls, letters, media advisories and other methods. Responds to inquiries from media. Informs media personnel of story ideas that might interest them.
4) Advises faculty, staff and students on media relations activities.
5) Attends selected campus events such as lectures, convocations, etc., to assist media, as advised by the director.
6) Travels to visit media.
7) Other duties as assigned.
