Media advisory: Arrangements for Oct. 1 lecture with author Phil Klay

Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014

MANHATTAN — Media are invited to attend the lecture by "Redeployment" author Phil Klay. He will discuss his book and its topics from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Ballroom of the K-State Alumni Center. "Redeployment" was recently nominated for a National Book Award for Fiction.

The lecture will be followed by some brief remarks about the subjects and themes in the book from a military spouse, student veteran, Vietnam veteran and a clinical psychologist, and there will be a question-and-answer session with the audience.

"Redeployment" contains several stories that draw from Klay's personal experience as a Marine captain as it details the Iraq war and the psychic toll it continues to take on those who fought in the war. The book has received numerous positive reviews from Goodreads.com, NPR, The Guardian, New York Times and Washington Post, among others.

MEDIA RSVP: Media are asked to RSVP to Art DeGroat at degroata@k-state.edu by 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, to reserve a seat and interview Klay.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Klay will be available for interviews from 5:30-5:45 p.m. following his lecture.
