K-STATE INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT SYMPOSIUM TO FEATURE ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGIST CRAIG ZIMRING
MANHATTAN -- Environmental psychologist Craig Zimring's work in organizationally responsive architecture has grabbed the attention of design leaders around the world. Zimring brings his message to K-State Thursday, Oct. 16, for the fifth annual Interior Design Student Symposium.
His presentation, "The Power of Design: Using the Evidence-Based Design Revolution to Increase Health, Safety and Financial Success," will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the K-State Alumni Center.
A professor of architecture and of psychology at Georgia Tech, Zimring helps designers understand how design of complex building such as courthouses and health care facilities can increase the effectiveness, efficiency, health and well-being of occupants. He has developed theories and methods of building evaluation and performed specialized studies of issues such as way-finding, security and stress.
Zimring has worked with groups such as AT&T, the U.S. Dept. of State, U.S. Department of Transportation, Ministry of Education of France, U.S. General Services Administration and California Department of General Services.
A panel discussion will explore topics related to interior design practice from 10-11:30 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch. To register, contact Jennifer Rettele-Thomas, director of development for the K-State College of Human Ecology, at 800-432-1578 or Jennifer@found.ksu.edu. The $15 fee includes lunch. Registration deadline is Oct. 8.
The K-State Interior Design Student Symposium is sponsored by K-State's Interior Design Advisory Board and the department of apparel, textiles and interior design.
