K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM A FINALIST IN 'EIGHT WONDERS OF KANSAS ART'
MANHATTAN -- The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University is among 24 finalists statewide vying to become one of "Eight Wonders of Kansas Art," a contest sponsored by the Kansas Sampler Foundation.
The Inman-based nonprofit organization promotes and preserves Kansas' rural resources and heritage. The current campaign extends an earlier one that encouraged voters to choose the Eight Wonders of Kansas. The series will continue to feature what the foundation calls the other elements of rural culture: architecture, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people. The aim is to help visitors and residents see Kansas with new eyes.
The Beach Museum's strong collection of Kansas art led to its selection.
"It is fantastic to be included in this project that promotes the visual arts in Kansas," said Lorne Render, director of the Beach Museum of Art. "When the collection at K-State was begun, the focus was on Kansas and the region, and to this day, the Beach Museum of Art has stayed true to that mission."
The winners will be selected through online and paper ballots. Anyone can vote by visiting the Web site, http://www.kansassampler.org/8wonders/
Paper ballots are available at the Beach Museum and at the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau, 501 Poyntz Ave. Ballots also can be obtained by calling the Kansas Sampler Foundation at 620-585-2374. The deadline for voting is Oct. 15; winners will be announced Oct. 31.
