STAN WEBER TO BE NEWEST MEMBER OF K-STATE'S ACCOUNTING HALL OF FAME
MANHATTAN -- Stan Weber, vice president and chief financial officer of Tower Properties in Kansas City, Mo., and color analyst for the Kansas State University Sports Network broadcasts of football and men's basketball, will be inducted into the K-State department of accounting's Accounting Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be Friday, Oct. 3, at the department's annual scholarship banquet.
K-State's department of accounting launched the Accounting Hall of Fame nine years ago as a way of recognizing alumni of the program who have achieved positions of leadership both in the business world and in their communities, and whose accomplishments and character reflect well on K-State, the College of Business Administration and the department of accounting.
"In honoring individuals selected for the K-State Accounting Hall of Fame, we also seek to hold out role models for students currently in the program and for young alumni just starting their careers," said Richard Ott, professor and head of the department of accounting and the Grant Thornton Faculty Fellow.
Weber earned a bachelor's degree in accounting, graduating magna cum laude, from K-State in 1984. He then earned his master's in accountancy from K-State in 1985, and passed the Certified Public Accountant exam in 1986. He worked as a certified public accountant from 1985-89 for KPMG-Peat Marwick. From 1989 to 2003 he worked for National Farms, spending 12 years as vice president and chief financial officer and then two years as president and chief executive officer. He joined Tower Properties in his current position in 2003.
Weber has provided color analysis for K-State football games on radio for 19 years, second only to Dev Nelson's tenure of 25 years. He has provided color analysis for K-State men's basketball games on both radio and television since 1997. In 2006, he began providing color analysis on radio for the newly created Kansas City Brigade Arena Football League team.
Since 2000, Weber has co-hosted a two-hour weekly radio show, "College Football Game Day," on Kansas City radio station WHB, where he also has been a guest host and color analyst for other shows and sports programming on the station. In addition, Weber is host of "Stan's Sports Spectrum," which airs twice weekly on Wichita radio station KGS. He is a regular analyst on Metro Sports television programs, including the nightly show "Metro Sports Talk," for which he won a Mid-America Emmy Award.
Weber is in his second year as the basketball analyst on KCTV-5's coverage of Big 12 basketball, including the Big 12 basketball tournament, and the NCAA basketball tournament. His other TV experience includes the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl games, Big 12 Conference basketball on ESPN Regional, Missouri Valley Conference basketball tournament and the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association's championship football games and basketball tournament games.
Weber and David Smale are co-authors of the book "Stan Weber's Tales from the Kansas State Sideline," which was released in August 2005 by Sports Publishing LLC.
Originally from Goddard, Weber was named Male Athlete of the Year by the Wichita Eagle in 1980 after finishing as an all-state football and basketball player. He also was the 1980 most valuable player of the Kansas Shrine Bowl. At K-State, Weber served as captain of the 1984 football team and led the Wildcats in rushing while earning academic All-America honors from the College of Sports Information Directors of America. He also held many of K-State's quarterback rushing records until the Michael Bishop and Ell Roberson eras.
