MEMOIRIST MEREDITH HALL TO GIVE PUBLIC READING AT K-STATE AS PART OF THE VISITING WRITERS SERIES
MANHATTAN -- The second installment of Kansas State University's Visiting Writers Series will feature memoirist Meredith Hall in a public reading of her work at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in Room 212 of the K-State Student Union.
Hall recently published her first book, "Without a Map," a memoir telling the story of her life. The book has received critical praise from People magazine, Entertainment Weekly and O Magazine, among others.
Hall graduated from Bowdoin College at the age of 44. She wrote her first essay, "Killing Chickens," in 2002. Two years later, she won the $50,000 Gift of Freedom Award from the A Room of Her Own Foundation, which gave her the financial freedom to begin work on her first book. She also has been awarded the Pushcart Prize and notable essay recognition in Best American Essays. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Creative Nonfiction, The Southern Review, Five Points, Prairie Schooner and several anthologies. She currently teaches writing at the University of New Hampshire.
The third installment of the series will feature Charles Simic, the 15th poet laureate of the U.S. and Pulitzer Prize winner, Wednesday, Oct. 22. Additional information on the series is available at:
