K-STATE'S LAFENE HEALTH CENTER RECEIVES ACCREDIATION FROM THE ACCREDITATION ASSOCIATION FOR AMBULATORY HEALTH CARE
MANHATTAN -- Lafene Health Center at Kansas State University has achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Lafene Health Center is the health care facility for K-State students.
Status as an accredited organization means Lafene has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care, as set by the accreditation association. The accreditation distinguishes Lafene from many other outpatient facilities by providing a safe work environment and the highest quality of care to patients, according to Lannie W. Zweimiller, director of the health center.
More than 3,600 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by the association.
Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation, and not all undergoing the on-site survey are granted accreditation, Zweimiller said.
"We believe our patients deserve the best," Zweimiller said. "When you see our certificate of accreditation, you will know that the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, an independent, not-for-profit organization, has closely examined our facility and procedures. It means that we as an organization care enough about our patients to strive for the highest care possible."
As part of the accreditation process, Lafene had to undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by the association's expert surveyors -- volunteer physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
"Going through the process challenged us to find better ways to serve our patients, and it is a constant reminder that our first responsibility is to our patients and the quality of care we provide," Zweimiller said.
The accreditation is specifically for organizations that provide diagnostic or medical care on an outpatient basis -- where an overnight stay would not be required.
Among the types of ambulatory health care organizations that can seek accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care are ambulatory and office-based surgery centers, single and multi-specialty group practices, college health centers, dental group practices, community health centers, occupational health centers and managed care organizations.
Lafene Health Center offers K-State students comprehensive, high quality, easily accessible and affordable outpatient health care. The center also serves as a resource and an advocate for health education, promotion and wellness. Student health service started in 1913 at K-State. Currently, Lafene is located adjacent to the west side of campus at 1105 Sunset Ave. Students can make an appointment by calling 785-532-6544.
