FIRE PREVENTION WEEK ACTIVITIES OCT. 6-9 AT K-STATE

MANHATTAN -- "Prevent Home Fires" is the theme of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6-9, at Kansas State University.

According to Randy Slover, fire inspection director at K-State, the week offers activities for students, faculty staff and the general public to learn more about fire safety.

Activities on the Manhattan campus will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, northwest of Van Zile Hall, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 8, on the Bosco Plaza in front of the K-State Student Union.

At K-State at Salina, fire safety activities will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, west of the College Center.

Events to be offered include fire extinguisher training, fire-fighting apparatus displays and demonstrations, educational materials, door prizes and free fire hats for children. Fire department personnel also will be on hand to answer questions, and fire trucks will be on display.

Activities for Fire Prevention Week at K-State are sponsored by K-State's Division of Public Safety in conjunction with the Manhattan Fire Department, State Fire Marshal's Office, Kansas Forestry Service and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

K-State takes fire prevention efforts seriously, Slover said, with regular testing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, inspections of all campus buildings for fire and life safety hazards.
