K-STATE'S FAMILY DAY SEPT. 27 OFFERS TOURS, MUSIC, FOOD AND INVOLVEMENT

MANHATTAN -- Families of Kansas State University students will get the chance to experience college life during K-State's Family Day, Saturday, Sept. 27.

Family Day helps involve parents and other family members in students' experience at K-State, said Emily Lehning, assistant dean of student life.

"Parents and family have such an enormous effect on their students' success on campus," Lehning said. "It really helps when families and students can share knowledge about the college environment."

Family Day participants will be able to tour the campus, participate in the K-State legacy pinning ceremony and brunch, walk the Konza Prairie and visit campus attractions such as the Insect Zoo and the K-State Gardens. Kid-friendly activities include a children's carnival, an ice cream social and a "story station" at Hale Library. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Bosco Plaza north of the K-State Student Union, a barbecue lunch will be offered.

An information booth will be available on the first floor of the Union, and staff will answer questions and provide maps and other information. While many activities are free and do not require registration, some will require fees and reservations.

K-State's honorary family of the year also will be recognized at Family Day. The family is selected by Chimes, the junior honorary.

More information and a full schedule of events is available at http://www.k-state.edu/familyday/

Activities include:
