Three generations can't be wrong:
SOLOMON FAMILY K-STATE'S 2008 FAMILY OF THE YEAR

MANHATTAN -- When Lawrence Strouts, Solomon, graduated from Kansas State University in 1949, he probably didn't know he was setting a family precedent.

Nearly 60 years and 12 K-State graduates later, the Lawrence and Betty Strouts family will be recognized for their loyalty to the university by being named K-State's Family of the Year for 2008.

Besides Lawrence Stouts, family graduates include all five of his and wife Betty's children, four of their children's spouses -- one of whom earned two degrees -- and two grandchildren. That's a total of 13 degrees that don the K-State seal -- with more on the way. One grandchild is presently seeking a graduate degree and three more are enrolled as undergraduates just this fall.

Chimes, K-State's junior honorary, selects the university's Family of Year from nominations received in the early fall.

"When choosing the Family of the Year, we consider the family's dedication to K-State, the degree of family involvement with the university, and the values a true K-State family should possess. The Strouts family had all of this and more," said Tana Smith, a junior in history and anthropology, Paola, and Family Day programming chair for Chimes.

Lawrence and Betty's son, Brian, nominated the family, noting in his application that: "Family is defined by the love and support that people give each other in their daily lives, as they grow and mature to meet their full potential, and as they face challenges large and small. Lawrence and Betty have demonstrated that in ways too numerous to mention to their children and grandchildren."

The Strouts family will be recognized with a special brunch on Family Day, Saturday, Sept. 27, and will be presented with a plaque during the Wildcat volleyball game against Baylor.
