K-STATE PANHELLENIC COUNCIL RECEIVES AWARD FOR OVERALL EXCELLENCE FROM NATIONAL PANHELLENIC CONFERENCE

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Panhellenic Council is being recognized nationally as one of the best.

The council is receiving the National Panhellenic Conference's Biennial Award for Overall Excellence as the top school in the nation with more than 10 sorority chapters. The award will be presented at the National Panhellenic Conference's biennial meeting Oct. 27 in Chicago.

The award was based on excellence in several factors, including training, leadership, recruitment and adherence to National Panhellenic guidelines.

As part of the honor, the national headquarters of Chi Omega sorority, which is sponsoring this year's award, will give the K-State Panhellenic Council two tickets to the biennial meeting banquet, a plaque and lodging for the meeting.

It's the second honor the Panhellenic Council has received this year. The council received the Sutherland Award for outstanding actions and policies of an ideal sorority community, from the Mid-America Greek Council Association in February. The association includes 24 states.

The K-State Panhellenic Council is made up of the 11 National Panhellenic Conference sororities at the university. Shawn Eagleburger, assistant director of K-State Greek affairs, serves as the council's faculty adviser and primary sorority adviser.

Council officers for 2007-2008 include:

From Greater Kansas City: Michelle LeCluyse, senior in biology, Leawood, council president; and Molly Hamm, junior in English and secondary education, and Macy Wendler, senior in apparel design, both of Shawnee and both council directors.

Rachael Barnett, senior in communication sciences and disorders, Hutchinson, council director; Sara Devlin, senior in biochemistry, Manhattan, council director.

From Colorado: Mary Bershenyi, senior in print journalism and advertising, Centennial, council director.

From Texas: Allison Voris, senior in electronic journalism, North Richland Hills, council director; and Nicki Kirkton, senior in fisheries and wildlife biology, San Antonio.
