K-STATE MORTAR BOARD CHAPTER RECEIVES HIGH HONOR
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's chapter of Mortar Board has received the Golden Torch Award for the 2006-2007 academic year.
The award was presented at the Mortar Board national conference in late July in Columbus, Ohio.
K-State was one of only 28 schools to take home the Golden Torch Award, which is presented to chapters that go above and beyond timeliness and excellence while exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.
Jim Mosimann, senior in political science and economics, Lee's Summit, Mo., and the 2007-2008 K-State Mortar Board president, accepted the honor for the chapter at the conference.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the organization has grown from its four founding chapters to 223 chartered collegiate and 25 active alumni chapters. It has nearly 250,000 initiated members across the nation. The K-State chapter was founded in 1928.
Mortar Board provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community. Some notable Mortar Board members include former President Jimmy Carter, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Lance Armstrong and former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
