K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO FEATURE PIANIST JEAN-FREDERIC NEUBURGER
MANHATTAN -- Pianist Jean-Frederic Neuburger will perform at Kansas State University as part of the McCain Performance Series. His show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in McCain Auditorium.
Individual tickets cost $8 to $20. Tickets may be ordered by calling the McCain box office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Tickets also may be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain
A pre-performance lecture will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 in 204 McCain. Robert Edwards, a retired faculty member of the K-State music department, will provide information about the pieces that Neuburger will perform, which includes music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Frederic Chopin, Maurice Ravel and Franz Liszt.
Neuburger, a 20-year-old pianist from France, has been described by the Washington Post as a "brilliantly polished, profoundly gifted young pianist." He won the 2006 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, debuted at Carnegie's Zankel Hall in New York in December 2006, and has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Neuberger has recently made two orchestral debuts: the first in Shanghai with the Shanghai Philharmonic; and the second in Tokyo with the New York Philharmonic.
While at K-State, Neuburger will take part in a master class for piano performance majors and music students. He also will discuss topics pertinent to being a professional musician. The class, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in All Faiths Chapel, will be conducted by Virginia Houser, an associate professor of piano at K-State.
Neuburger's performance is sponsored by Capitol Federal, with additional funding provided by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Funding also is provided by the K-State fine arts fee and the Friends of McCain.
