PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL ENGINEERING SOCIETY TO VISIT K-STATE

MANHATTAN -- William F. Marcuson, the president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, will be visiting Kansas State University as part of the civil engineering department's centennial anniversary celebration.

The K-State department of civil engineering was established by the Kansas Board of Regents in fall 1907, with the first curriculum offered in 1908.

Marcuson will discuss the future of civil engineering at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in Fiedler Auditorium, as well as 7 p.m. in Fiedler Auditorium as the guest speaker for the Bob Thorn Lecture Series.

Marcuson earned a bachelor's in civil engineering from The Citadel, a master's in structural engineering from Michigan State University and a doctorate in geotechnical engineering from North Carolina State University. Marcuson is a licensed professional engineer in Mississippi and South Carolina. He lives in Vicksburg, Miss.

Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 137,500 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide and is America's oldest national engineering society. The society's vision is to position engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. The K-State chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers was chartered in 1923 and has around 215 student members.
