TWO FALL LANDON LECTURES POSTPONED
MANHATTAN -- Two Landon Lectures scheduled for this fall have been postponed.
Charles Reagan, chair of the Landon Lecture Series, said, "Due to conditions in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai will be cutting short his visit to the United States and returning home after his speech to the United Nations Sept. 23. So he will be unable to present a Landon Lecture as planned."
No alternate date has been set.
Also, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Zhou Wenzhong whose Landon Lecture was scheduled Oct. 10, will be unable to present at that time. Reagan said he expects the ambassador to speak at a later date in October.
"We regret these postponements," Reagan said, "but when you are inviting speakers of this caliber, there are risks that they may not be able to come as scheduled. We prefer to take these risks in order to continue to invite the high caliber of speakers who have graced the Landon podium."
