DAVID COLEMAN, "THE DATING DOCTOR," COMING TO K-STATE

MANHATTAN -- David Coleman, known nationwide as "The Dating Doctor," will make a house call at Kansas State University.

Coleman's presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The event is sponsored by K-State's Lafene Health Center, the Sexual Health Awareness Peer Educators, Union Program Council, Association of Residence Halls and the Student Governing Association.

Coleman has been named the national speaker of the year 10 times, including seven times by Campus Activities magazine and three times by the National Association for Campus Activities. His most recent title was for 2006.

This is the third time Coleman has visited K-State, according to Carol Kennedy, director of health promotion and nutrition counseling at Lafene Health Center.

"'The Dating Doctor' is very popular among students," Kennedy said. "His message on relationships and dating are very practical. Most students will gain insight into their own relationship or how to go about starting a healthy one. Another benefit is that Coleman is humorous. He usually has all who attend laughing and learning."

In addition to his nationwide speaking engagements, Coleman also has published several books. His "Date Smart! How to Stop Revolving and Start Evolving in Relationships" is a top seller. His most recent work, "Making Relationships Matter," is a look at how too live a life with no regrets while getting the most from every day and every relationship in a post-Sept. 11 world.

"David Coleman has great advice for those in destructive relationships and for those looking for healthy relationships," said Annisa Shockey, president of K-State's Sexual Health Awareness Peer Educators. "He's a lot of fun. He encourages students to be the fat penguin and break the ice."
