K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION NAMES UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT JON WEFALD TO BUSINESS LEADERS HALL OF FAME
MANHATTAN -- Jon Wefald, president of Kansas State University, is the newest inductee of the K-State College of Business Administration's Business Leaders Hall of Fame.
A formal induction and presentation was made at the college's annual Dean's Business Advisory Council awards dinner Oct. 24.
Wefald is the first academic administrator to be inducted into the college's hall of fame. According to Yar Ebadi, dean of the college, Wefald's leadership style embodies all the qualities of a top business executive.
"He communicates a clear vision, always displays a positive attitude, has a history of empowering those around him and possesses the innate ability to motivate others to achieve," Ebadi said. "By recognizing and encouraging excellence, Jon Wefald has distinguished himself as a leader in helping K-State become one of the nation's premier land-grant institutions. Under his leadership, K-State has improved its business position as well as its academic reputation."
During Wefald's tenure, K-State's enrollment has increased, its endowment program has expanded, the physical plant continues to grow, and K-State has established a national presence in athletics, Ebadi said. He also noted that K-State's total research funding has consistently increased and has set records under Wefald's leadership.
"Publications around the country have lauded President Wefald's accomplishments and enthusiasm, with USA Today calling his achievements 'the miracle in Manhattan,'" Ebadi said.
"President Wefald has done what the best business executives do -- he came to K-State and turned it around," Ebadi said. "He produced amazing results which have served to benefit not only our students and the university, but the state of Kansas as well. Kansas State University is what it is today because of the leadership of Jon Wefald."
Individuals inducted into the College of Business Administration's Business Leaders Hall of Fame have distinguished themselves from their peers in their chosen field. Recipients are selected based on their career success, their individual accomplishments, and their active demonstration of friendship and support for the college, its faculty, staff and students. Hall of fame recipients exemplify the outstanding qualities of business leadership that the college strives to develop in its students, Ebadi said.
