MANHATTAN -- Brad Rundquist, associate professor and chair of the department of geography at the University of North Dakota, has been named Kansas State University's 2008 Geography Distinguished Alum.

Rundquist, who received his master's in 1995 and his doctorate in 2000, both from K-State, will present the Distinguished Geography Alumni Address at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in 132 Seaton Hall. The title of his talk, which is free and open to the public, is "From Texas to North Dakota: My Journey Along the 96th Meridian."

At North Dakota, Rundquist teaches courses in remote sensing, geographic information systems and physical geography. His research interests are remote sensing of vegetation dynamics, land use/land cover mapping and field spectroscopy. Rundquist has been at North Dakota since August 2000 and holds adjunct appointments in the school's departments of space studies and earth system science and policy.

Rundquist is the managing editor of Geocarto International and the book review editor for Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing. He serves as past chair of the Great Plains-Rocky Mountain Division of the Association of American Geographers and president of the Upper Midwest Chapter of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

In 1995-96, Rundquist worked as an associate scientist for Lockheed Martin at the NASA Johnson Space Center, supporting the Human-Directed Earth Observations program. Rundquist also has a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
