WORLD FAMOUS JERUSALEM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO ENTERTAIN AT K-STATE'S MCCAIN AUDITORIUM
MANHATTAN -- The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the premier orchestra of Israel's capital city, will come to Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium to perform a program celebrating two of the most influential Jewish-American composers of all time, Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland.
The performance, part of the 2008-09 McCain Performance Series, will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6.
This is the second U.S. tour for the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Its previous tour in 2006 generated much enthusiastic acclaim from viewers and critics alike. The evening's performance will include, Bernstein's "Serenade" for violin and orchestra, a new work by Israeli composer Erich Walter Sternberg and will conclude with Copland's monumental "Symphony No. 3."
Bernstein's "Serenade" features violin virtuoso Robert McDuffie, who has appeared with most of the major orchestras of the world, including the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics, the Chicago, San Francisco, and Atlanta symphonies, and the Philadelphia, Cleveland and North German Radio orchestras.
The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra has grown in popularity since the appointment of Leon Botstein as music director. Botstein also is music director and principal conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra in New York, editor of Musical Quarterly, author of numerous articles and books, and president of Bard College. Recently, Botstein addressed the United Nations on "Why Music Matters" as part of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Lecture Series.
