K-STATE'S JARDINE APARTMENTS TO HOST HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES

MANHATTAN -- The resident assistant staff at Kansas State University's Jardine Apartments will offer several Halloween activities Friday, Oct. 31.

The activities are for all ages of Jardine residents, and the Jardine resident assistant staff is encouraging members of the Manhattan and K-State communities to attend as well. All activities are free.

The fun will start at the Frith Community Center at 4 p.m. Participants can socialize with other Jardine residents and community members while taking part in carnival-like activities, including a mummy relay, coloring contest, costume judging and enjoying many sweet treats.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a candy hunt will start around the community center, and then participants can disperse throughout the Jardine Apartments Complex for trick-or-treating. Volunteers from K-State's National Residence Hall Honorary will be on hand to assist with activities throughout the evening.

LaKrystal McKnight, senior in elementary education, Overland Park, and a Jardine resident assistant, has led the planning for the Halloween activities. McKnight encourages residents wanting to provide candy at their apartments to preregister at the Firth Community Center. Participating residents will then receive a sign to put on their door the day of the event from 5-6 p.m.

In the upcoming weeks, the staff also will sponsor its annual Breakfast Club, self-defense training and a support group for loved ones of deployed soldiers. Community events are free to Jardine residents and are included in the monthly Jardine Journal and on the K-State housing and dining services Web site, http://housing.k-state.edu/

Events sponsored by the Jardine Apartment Complex provide opportunities to come together to learn, create, develop friendship and just have fun. Jardine is currently home to more than 1,300 residents. The residents represent approximately 48 countries and include undergraduate, graduate and nontraditional students, as well as some postdoctoral researchers and staff. Jardine also is home to around 100 children. More information about the Jardine staff-sponsored events is available by contacting apartments@k-state.edu.
