DELTA LAMBDA PHI AT K-STATE RECEIVES NATIONAL COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's chapter of Delta Lambda Phi fraternity has received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the fraternity's national organization.
The fraternity was recognized for the 2007 holiday food drive it conducted. The chapter, which has eight active members, donated around 1,000 cans of food, four turkeys, two hams and $500 to area food banks such as the Flint Hills Breadbasket and Ryan White Food Pantry for HIV Patients.
"Delta Lambda Phi at K-State instills the value of community service in its members from their earliest stages of involvement, including performing community service as part of a recruitment event, and requiring new members to coordinate a community service project for the entire chapter before being initiated into full membership," said Dusty Garner, junior in political science, Andover, and fraternity president.
Delta Lambda Phi members have continued with their community service this year. They have a record number of services hour with approximately 19 hours per member for the month of September, according to Garner.
"It is our belief that by being heavily involved in community service, we are better able to fulfill our founding principles of our brotherhood, and in turn, make the world a better place for all people," Garner said.
