BUSINESS HONORARY AT K-STATE SPONSORING FUNDRAISER FOR TRIBLE SCHOLARSHIP FUND, K-STATE CANCER CENTER
MANHATTAN -- The Kansas State University chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, the national professional business fraternity, will have a poker run fundraiser from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in Aggieville.
Proceeds will benefit the Rebecca Trible Scholarship Fund and K-State's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research. The fundraiser is open to the public.
Participants can purchase game sheets at Varney's Book Store, 623 N. Manhattan Ave., in Aggieville, from 1-3:30 p.m. Nov. 3. The cost is $5 for a single sheet or $20 for five sheets. Participants will play a five-card draw of poker, going to different locations in Aggieville to draw a new card.
"Participants will got to Varney's Book Store, Rusty's Last Chance, Pat's Blue Rib'n Barbeque and Pizza Hut, drawing one card per game sheet at each location," said Scott Cable, organizer of the poker run.
The participant with the best hand will win an Xbox 360 gaming system. A raffle for additional prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants and K-State merchandise from Ballard Sporting Goods, also will be available.
Alpha Kappa Psi has set up a scholarship in memory of Trible, a K-State sophomore in marketing and Alpha Kappa Psi member who died in a recent car accident. Trible was a graduate of Russell High School.
"In this time of loss within the K-State community, we feel this is a great way to bring people together," Cable said.
Alpha Kappa Psi also will donate part of the proceeds to the cancer center at K-State, which has a mission of furthering the understanding of cancer by funding basic research and supporting higher education, training and public outreach.
Chartered in 1927, K-State's Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi is the oldest and largest organization in the College of Business Administration at K-State. Members strive to build skills in professional development, networking and education. Alpha Kappa Psi has 197 chapters in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.
