SUE PETERSON RECEIVES KRAUSE OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD FROM K-STATE'S ALPHA TAU OMEGA FRATERNITY

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's chapter of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity is recognizing Susan "Sue" Peterson with its Robert S. Krause Alpha Tau Omega Outstanding Campus Leader Award.

Peterson, assistant to K-State President Jon Wefald and director of governmental relations, received the honor Oct. 9 at the fraternity's awards banquet.

Representatives of the K-State Alpha Tau Omega Students' Aid Endowment Fund presented the award, a plaque and a $1,000 cash donation to the charity of the recipient's choice. Peterson designated the Kansas State University Foundation for the benefit of K-State Libraries as recipient of the donation.

The annual award honors Krause, K-State vice president for institutional advancement, who also served as the fraternity chapter's faculty adviser for 12 years. The award recognizes outstanding campus leadership by faculty, staff or administrators of K-State, as chosen by vote of the fraternity chapter members.

A native of Abilene, Peterson has served in her current post since 1989. She is directly responsible for all K-State liaison activities with the Kansas Legislature, the governor and executive branch officers, and the Kansas congressional delegation.

In addition, Peterson has taught Kansas politics and government at K-State for the last 15 years. She is currently president of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas and a member of numerous boards and councils, both charitable and governmental. She is also the chapter adviser for the K-State chapter of Kappa Delta sorority.

Peterson earned a bachelor's and doctorate from K-State, and a master's in public administration from the University of Kansas. Before joining K-State, she served as executive assistant to Kansas Gov. Mike Hayden, administrative assistant to the speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives and administrative assistant to the Kansas House majority leader.

Peterson received the award from John Bensman, senior in industrial engineering, Overland Park, and K-State chapter president of Alpha Tau Omega; Krause; and Bill Muir, president, and Allan Holiday, secretary, of the K-State Alpha Tau Omega Endowment Fund. Making remarks at the event were Pat Bosco, K-State associate vice president for institutional advancement and dean of student life, and Amy Button Renz, president of the K-State Alumni Association. Bosco and Renz are both former recipients of the award. Also on hand was Scott Jones, director of K-State Greek affairs and faculty adviser to the Alpha Tau Omega chapter.

The Robert S. Krause Alpha Tau Omega Outstanding Campus Leader Award was established in spring 2003. Previous recipients have been Bosco in 2003; Renz in 2004; James R. Coffman, provost emeritus, in 2005; and Bill Snyder, former K-State head football coach, in 2006.
