K-STATE INSTITUTE OF CIVIC DISCOURSE AND DEMOCRACY'S FALL LECTURE TO FEATURE WILLIAM KEITH
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Institute of Civic Discourse and Democracy fall presentation in its Lecture Series in Civic Discourse will feature William Keith, professor of communication at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The lecture will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Hemisphere Room of K-State's Hale Library.
Keith's lecture will be "Democracy as Discussion: Rediscovering Our Forum Traditions." He will discuss how average citizens gathering to talk about public issues is an important and powerful part of the democratic process.
Keith has recently published the book "Democracy as Discussion: the American Forum Movement and Civic Education," in which he examines the history of deliberative democracy in the United States and its impact on citizens.
A reception, also in the Hemisphere Room, will follow the lecture. Both the lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
