'STICKS AND STRINGS' CONCERT AT K-STATE TO FEATURE GUEST ARTISTS JERRY AND MARLENE TACHOIR

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University students will present their semiannual "Sticks and Strings" concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in K-State's All Faiths Chapel auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public. It will feature chamber string and keyboard percussion music and guest artists Jerry and Marlene Tachoir, who play vibraphone and piano, respectively.

Recording artist Jerry Tachoir is one of the most in demand mallet artists in the world today. He is the leader of Group Tachoir, a contemporary jazz ensemble that has performed at most of the major concert halls and jazz festivals throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Recent performances include the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the International Festival of Jazz in Montreal, the Ottawa Jazz Festival and the Mellon Jazz Festival.

Marlene Tachoir has been an award-winning composer for more than 20 years. As part of a large musical family in the Saguenay region of the Quebec province, she was exposed to jazz and improvisation at an early age by her father, a band leader. After many years at the Quebec Conservatory, she pursued her interest in jazz and composition by attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her music has been featured on six recordings and has aired on National Public Radio and jazz stations everywhere, as well as for performances on public television, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and CBS.

This concert is supported by K-State's Student Governing Association, department of music and student chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, as well as Glenn's Music and the Musser Corporation.
